my camera has no name on it , I was wondering if anyone can identify it thanks Tom, it was my fathers, it is in very good condition it has a wollensak 162 mm lense with it. I have looked thru a lot of pictures for days can not find one that is the same , I think it might be a RARE CAMERA, ANYONE KNOW FOR SURE?I have looked through a lot of pictures and camera books but can not find this one , any suggestions? thanks
Can you post pictures of the front and rear? It looks English but difficult to tell.
It's more than likely English and a bit more modern - probably post 1910. I was hoping the front and rear views would show a design detail that would point to a builder. But this is not the case, especially because the rear of the camera was modified to handle more modern plate holders. Unfortunately many English cameras are nearly identical without a badge. Even experienced collectors have difficulty pinning down a builder of a camera without a builder's mark. Anyhow, we call this body pattern "English Compact".

Hi motral ... the body pattern ("English Compact") is quite common yet your specific camera might be an uncommon variation but it is difficult to know. Please keep in mind that not all English cameras have been catalogued and there could be other examples of your camera. For instance, each year I am presented with at least 10 English cameras that defy identification. Yet if uncommon (or even rare), the overall value of your camera would be a little bit less than similar identified models because the back was modified. Enjoy it as a nice display piece! Ohhh ... the corner braces on the back are known as 'bindings'.
