Conta & Boehme China Head

This Conta & Boehme china head is striking and beautiful, with an impressive and commanding expression (some say disgruntled, dissatisfied, silently judging all), and even though she's missing a good half of herself, she exudes a royal and important attitude and presence.

German porcelain company Conta and Boehme made, in my opinion, the most attractive looking china head dolls of the Victorian era. Not the rarest of the rare, or the absolute finest quality compared to the likes of the highly coveted KPM, Meissen etc, but Conta & Boehme's products always attract my attention. To me, their beauty is second to none.

I named this doll Victoria. She's 4.5" in height, with pierced ears and an elaborate and fancy coiffure of the 1870's. Her fine brush marks around the temples are amazing, her deep blue eyes are mesmerizing and the most perfect shade of sea blue. It's not until you see this example in profile that you really appreciate the incredible ca. 1870 hair arrangement. That hair is a work of art.

Victoria came to me minus a body, which I'm in the process of searching for. I think she needs a lovely wasp waist body with beautiful china or bisque arms and legs. I added the earrings to her which I think completes her fashion forward stylish woman-of-the (18)70's look.

Victoria currently sits in a cabinet with other body-less china head associates, patiently waiting for her other half.
