I believe this wrench belonged to my grandfather who was a boilermaker in a Boston shipyard. It is pretty hefty at 18" long. It is a 1-1/2" wrench. The metal at the wrench end is 7/8" think. Obviously it is a wrench, but why the pointed end?

Sweet!!! I packed a pair of spuds ( called podgers in Australia ) around for many years on my work belt.
the taper part is a "drift" used to line up holes as previously stated above by Kerry.
What is the 9-26, 9-24 and 9-25 stamped on the wrench?
I inherited a bunch of tools from my Dad, a carpenter, and Granddad a boilermaker. I know what my Dad's tools are but have some that are from my Granddad, like this wrench, that I have no idea about. I am keeping some but not others. Is it appropriate here to ask how much this wrench is worth?

Here is SE Pennsylvania tools like this sell on tray-lots of a half dozen misc. pieces for $5 to $15. Nobody buys them to use and they are not "exotic" looking display pieces.
