I found this interesting little pot at my local car boot last week and have no idea of its origin or original use. It is about 40 cm long and and is made from a very hard dense wood. The bowl is turned as is the handle and the handle pulls right out of the bowl if you pull it. Does anyone know what it is please, I am going to hang it on my wall and no doubt people will ask me what it is and where it is from. Thanks!

Could it be a candle snuffer?

It appears to be made of ebony wood. Only thing I could guess is it is a lathering bowl. They were quite often made of ebony years ago but not sure anyone uses them or is even aware of what they are anymore.
