can anybody tell me what this may be. a stand? no markings but appears to be silver. i believe it may be english as dad was and had many english antiques.

I also thought of a knife rest…..the decorative design would still be visible on each side of the knife.
Yes that's right. a knife rest. Especially for your own private butter knife.
