    i picked this stone mortar yesterday at a thrift shop for $3. It's got an interesting decoration which i imagine makes it easier to hold while using. I found it in a thrift shop in Oakland yesterday. It's made of a very hard stone - maybe basalt? any info appreciated!

      I was told recently that the ring around the bowl represents a snake and that this is a shaman's bowl.
