This is an early 20th Century cast iron file handle (sometimes referred to as “bird cage” or “skeleton” design handles). It's one of three I currently own, all in great shape with no cracks (a common problem in these old files), and all run about 5" in length. An on-line search found a 1907 publication with what appears to be an identical handle, and that the Millers Falls Co. was offering these handles are early as 1891.

What neat things! I'm particulaly liking the design/pattern on the thumbscrew of the middle handle in photo 2.
