We dug this old thing up about 15 years ago in our garden. It looks to be one solid piece of iron? The handle part is 10 inches and the top part measures about 4 inches from the blade part to the rounded hammering part? I also measured the width of the blade side, which is not quite 2 inches.. And its is pretty darn heavy too! Looks as if someone really used it to pound the hell out of something?

Thank you Kerry! I was pretty sure it had something to do with roofs or barn building ? But everything I found ( remotely similar) had handles made of wood or longer blades..etc. It sure does appear to have been a favorite tool for somebody..I wonder how old it is?
Just very possible, wooden handle was broken and inserted homemade metal handle. I appears to be a more modern shaped head, age would be hard to guess,but I'm leaning towards the early to mid 1900's
