This brooch has been in our family for several generations, a cairngorm and believed to be brought over from Scotland sometime between the 1860s - 1890s. I'd love to know if anyone has any clues as to the age of the piece, is this early Victorian? Is it a common style for the era?
Also, it has had a rough life, it looks to me like it hasn't been cleaned in a long time, is it likely to be gold or gold plated? Any ideas greatly appreciated.
This is absolutely stunning. I think 1800s from the style and the C clasp. If it's not marked, I would have a jeweler take a look and test it for gold content.
