Can anyone tell me what this is. I got it in a box at an auction. I figured it was old because of the 1879 date on it but I have no idea what it is. The top is made of wood with the numbers on the one side and then a round dot of mother of pearl on the other side. the bottom is made of metal. It measures 4 1/4 inches long. Hope someone can help me. Thanks so much.
Looks like possible guitar string tightening key? or some instrument...
Could it be a piano wire tuning key?
I can't see in the photos but if there is a tiny piece of crystal in the end of the metal part, it is a glass cutter. The crystal is a chip of diamond.
