A Must See

An insightful read on a post-earthquake postcard from San Francisco in 1906:
A person writes to a sister about the fires that tore through after the quake. The anonymous writer, who also claims that he'd send more "postals", says that all "the water mains were busted, so they dynamited buildings to keep the fire from spreading."
The author goes on to tell how, "the city was under Martial Law, armed soldiers and sailors patrolled the streets and shot every-body caught plundering."
Also according to this account, "All able bodied men were made to work digging up the mains and burning the dead." A few words are too hard to read, but it then says, "A few men [aboard our???] ship lost their families in the fire...."
This postcard is of people seeking out their rations. I believe it was written by a sailor of some kind.
