I read about this jewelry manufacturer. Think the pin is contemporary. Love the Tiger's Eye stone.

Back is marked Wells Ster . I am used to sterling being silver. Could this have been plated with gold ? Wouldn't it have to be marked that way ?
If it were gold, it would have to be marked gold, wouldn't it ?

Very nice pin. Not familiar with Wells, but if ster stands for sterling it's probably vermeil, a gold wash over the silver.

Thank you. You are probably correct. A gold color would set off the Tiger's Eye better than silver. The maker is now considered vintage. Did read online that they also did some pieces in gold, so I wondered. Thought they would mark pieces as being gold, wouldn't they ? Yet, it said sterling. Always more/something to learn.
