I know it's a ruler, but never seen one with the alphabet inscribed on it. Anyone know what is would be used for?

I notice the letter J is missing from the alphabet.
I'd noticed that too, flashlarue. I wonder why?? Also curious if that's some kind of 'marking point' (and why) on the opposite arm. qtnomore, how big is it in reality, and would it be possible to see an additional photo of the entire thing??
I added a picture of it next to a ruler. It is something I was thinking about buying. I never noticed the missing letter J! Looks like the Z is backwards too? Never seen anything like it as far as the alphabet.
Could the missing j be a throw back to the time when the letter I also stood for j?
No idea, but Super Neat !! All I could think of is some kind of ruler for those one room schools / Class Room ....
Nothing on the Brass? Not even a Patent number there ??
No patent number. Neat item just have no idea what you would use it for! LOL
