This was a super sleeper on eBay AU, very cheap!
Thought I’d take a chance on it due to the unusual grey inner casing - almost a lilac grey in real life (as usual with colours like this, nearly impossible to capture in a photograph) & also because I believed it to be the base of a fairy lamp. Look at the shape of the bottom of it. Not your average bowl.
Little did the seller know, nor I realise it had a uranium content as well!
The bowl is made from cased glass, white over a lilac grey interior. It measures 7 cm tall, 17.5 cm wide across the double crimped top rim, & 7 cm across the base, which has a rough pontil mark. There is a clear crest on the top rim. The white layer has a uranium content & glows bright green under UV light. I randomly decided to test it out & ended up pleasantly surprised by the result.
I’m 99.99% sure that it was the base of a fairy lamp. Now all I need is a matching dome…I know, dream on, dreamer!
Could be Bohemian or English origin, circa late 19th century.
