The overall size of this knife or bayonet is 11 inches, with the blade at roughly 7.5 inches. It looks like a wooden handle with brass fittings in the wood. There are various markings, such as a crown, WD, and the numerals 97. Even with these markings, I have not been able to find an example that looks like this one and is the same size.
Can someone help me identify its origins and value? Thanks!
This appears to be a cut down and drastically altered British Pattern 1888 bayonet. The WD is the British War Department acceptance mark, and the crown over a VR indicates manufacture in the reign of Queen Victoria (Victoria Regina) under that is the issue date.
