This beautiful bronze [or copper?] is 40" tall. It's definitely old by the looks of the old, black velvet on the bottom of the base and the patina and spiderwebs inside the mouth. I haven't found any other online which matches it. I sure hope i can find out something about it. i bought it from a picker yesterday who got it in exchange for cleaning out a house for sale.
I think that it's Chinese. They have made a lot of rearing horse sculptures for many centuries. The saddle and harnesses on this one are different from the normal ones i could find online, so it might not be chinese after all. Where do you think it's from?

thank you nldionne. living with it, i can say that it's even more impressive and beautiful each day. the scale does not come across well in the photos - this statue is 4' tall and looks like it belongs in a museum.

I have never found out anything about this rearing bronze horse. He's very large at 40 inches high and he has a wonderful patina. He's wearing a very distinctive saddle which I have never figured out where it is from, nor when it was made.

Wow! dav2no1! you have partially solved this. the one difference is that mine is on an elaborate bronze/copper plinth. Although I can't see it really well at biggrassliving, i think there are some quality differences, but they do share the same basic decoration. I've spent hours trying to find any reference to this. Thank you!
